John D McDonald: This month's featured author is John D. McDonald, creator of the fabulous private investigator, Travis McGee. A prolific author, McDonald wrote 78 novels in his lifetime, and created a most unique character in Travis McGee. If you've never read the series, consider spending part of this summer getting to know ole' Trav. Perfect summer reading, for vacation, on the airplane, or on the boat.
Experts.com: As you know by now, if you've visited before, I try to include at least one good resource for writers. Experts.com provides writers with a host of experts available for interview on a wide variety of topics. Take a look, maybe you'll find a match that will give you a quote for that article you're writing.
Mystic Seaport Boatbuilding class: Don't have time for a summer vacation? Take a look at
an interesting opportunity for the fall and/or winter. Learn how
to build a boat in this interesting class from Mystic Seaport. I
find the concept intriguing, and think it would give a writer a
new perspective and material. At some point in the not too
distant future, I plan to go and take the family.
Amateur Poetry Journal: The
Amateur Poetry Journal offers a great deal of useful information
to poets. This site is jam-packed with resources and advice on
writing and selling your poetry.
Forever Yours Musical Greeting Cards: This is a marvelous free greeting card web site that
provides my latest favorite, the Lake Effect Card. If you don't
know what a Lake Effect is, take a look at this site and
experience the beauty of the java code created by David Griffith.
These cards are wonderful for anyone who cannot get away to the
calm and soothing waters. If you care to create your own Lake
Effects, you can visit the Lake
Applets 101 web site, and be making
them on your own in a few short minutes.
Fourth of July: Visit this
great site for the history of Independence Day in the United
States, the meaning of the American Flag, and the Declaration of
Independence.
How
do your Muscles Work?: This unique site
presents useful information for children and their parents on
muscles, including illustrations. By the way, what IS the muscle
with the longest name? Visit this site and find out.
Half Price Day-of-show Theater Tickets: Want to take the entire family to the theater, but
can't afford to take out a loan this month? Consider these
opportunities for half-price day of show tickets.
Paper Dolls: One of my fondest
memories of childhood was making, cutting out, and acting out
scenes with the paper dolls my mother fashioned for me. The
United States Historical Society has designed an outstanding set
of historical paper dolls. This would be an interesting site for
anyone writing period pieces, parents who want to have fun AND
educate their children, or adults who enjoy learning something
new.
The
Ultimate Collection of News Links: This
comprehensive site offers an extensive collection of links to
newspapers for countries from Angola to Yugoslavia. Learn about
the world around you through the eyes of people who live there.
